Tourn

A fast instrumental cut to contemporary public record: thermal drone feeds, night-vision flight decks, F-35s, rockets on the pad, spacewalks and the planet from orbit. It rises out of orbit, drops into machines and motion, sinks into thermal and night vision for the breakdown, rides storms and wildfire, and climbs back to space. Fast cuts settle into held images that pulse on the beat.

How it was made Process

  1. Listening. The track was analyzed at 30fps for loudness and for kick, snare and hi-hat hits, and a beat grid was fitted to it (about 164 BPM).
  2. Sections. Each part of the song draws from its own footage: orbit for the intro, jets, carriers, rockets and drones for the drops, thermal and night vision for the breakdown, then storms, seas and wildfire, then launches and spacewalks.
  3. Chop and hold. The edit is planned in two-bar units. Runs of fast cuts on the drums settle into held images that loop a single beat and punch in on every beat, and hard snares stab them with flash-cuts of related footage.
  4. Glitch & color. Real codec datamoshing (deleted I-frames, repeated P-frames), stale-block moshing, gradient-map color bursts on kicks, macroblock corruption on snares, strobes on hi-hats. Every clip was checked by eye so no titles, logos or captions made it in.
